Storm Damage

The job, start to finish.

A hail claim is settled on paper long before anyone climbs a ladder. The adjuster walks the roof once, writes a scope from what he sees that day, and the carrier pays against that scope. Everything that gets missed on that single visit stays missed unless somebody goes back and asks for it in writing. That request is called a supplement, and it is where most of the money in a storm claim is either won or quietly left behind.

Supplementing is a documentation job rather than an argument. Drip edge, ridge, valley metal, pipe boots, decking that fails inspection once the old layers come off, code items a city has adopted since the roof was last done: none of these are controversial, and all of them are routinely absent from a first scope. Getting them added means matching the carrier's own estimating format, pricing the line correctly, and sending photographs that show why it belongs there.

How It Works

01

Free inspection

A roof cannot be judged from the ground, and plenty of them turn out to have years left. The visit costs nothing either way.

02

The claim, if there is one

A carrier pays against a scope written in its own estimating format, so that is the format the damage has to be documented in. Somebody here does that full time.

03

Scope and color

You get a written scope before anything starts, and color boards go up against the house rather than being chosen from a brochure.

04

Tear off and rebuild

The old roof comes off, the deck gets inspected while it is visible, and the new system goes on. Most single family roofs are one or two days.

05

Permits and inspection

Our office manager handles permits and the city inspection. It is administrative and it is the part that quietly goes wrong when nobody owns it.

06

The magnet pass

Drive, lawn and beds, checked before anyone leaves the site.

Storm Damage and Hail Claims detail

The Difference

The part that decides how it goes.

We keep a supplement manager on staff to do that, and it is that person's only job. Plenty of homeowners come to us after a different roofer filed the claim, took a partial payment and stopped answering, which is the exact point where the supplement work should have started.

A storm rarely stops at the roof. Gutters and downspouts, window screens, garage doors and patio door glass all go onto the same claim regularly. If your policy covers it and the storm caused it, it belongs in the scope, and it is easier to get it there while the claim is open than to reopen it later.

Before You Call

Storm Damage, answered.

My insurance already paid. Is it too late to add anything?

Usually not. A claim can be supplemented after the first payment, and a partial payment is the normal starting point rather than the end of it. Bring us the paperwork and we will read the scope against what is actually on the roof.

Another roofer filed my claim and then stopped answering. Can you pick it up?

Yes, and it comes up often. We can pick up a claim somebody else opened and look at what was left out of it.

Do I have to be home when the adjuster comes?

It helps to have someone there who can speak to the damage. We can meet the adjuster at the property so the scope gets written with the roof in front of both of us.

Will filing a claim raise my rate?

That is a question for your agent rather than your roofer, and it is worth asking before you file. A hail claim is generally treated differently from an at-fault claim, but policies vary and yours is the one that matters.

What if the damage turns out to be cosmetic?

Then we say so. Not every dented vent means a roof needs replacing, and a free inspection that ends in "leave it for now" is a legitimate outcome.
